This octagonal chapel has large walls and small arched openings

The legend of the Templars fascinates... Built between 1180 and 1220, this octagonal chapel is unique in Lorraine! The only remnant of the Templar Order, established in Metz in 1133, the lintel of the door is still adorned with the well-known cross pattee. At the crossroads of Romanesque and Gothic art, this atypical chapel has wide walls and small round-headed openings, but already has ribbed vaults. Its cul-de-four apse and its square choir are its particularity. Inside, some medieval frescoes and stained glass windows decorate it.

As a fan of History Channel's Curse of Oak Island with all their talk of the Knights Templar, I had to take the opportunity to see one of their chapels in person. The only drawback was it was my last day in Metz, and the Temple didn't open until 1400. So, I could only admire its simplistic beauty from the outside.
