ST. CLEMENT'S CHURCH
Formerly the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Clément de Metz, this church is located in the Pontiffroy district.
A former Benedictine abbey church belonging to the Abbey of Saint-Clément de Metz (the city's first bishop in the 3rd century AD), the church is located in the Pontiffroy district. Since 1983, the restored abbey has been the headquarters of the Lorraine Regional Council, and serves as the Region's town hall. The fountain in Place Hocquard symbolizes Lorraine's four départements: pierre de Jaumont for Moselle; grey limestone for Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle; pink sandstone for Vosges. A magnetic loop has been installed to improve the acoustics of the site, making it more comfortable for the hearing-impaired. However, weekday masses are held in the small chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Perpétuel-Secours (to the right of the church), rue Tour-aux-Rats.
