CHURCH AND CONVENT
Church of the Old City of Nancy, built under René II of Lorraine after the battle of Nancy
The church of Les Cordeliers, of its full name, the church of Saint-François-des-Cordeliers, is a church in the Old Town of Nancy, located right next to the palace of the Dukes of Lorraine, whose tombs it contains, intended for the princes of Lorraine, just like that of the Medici in Florence. The remains of the Lorraine family rest in the crypt. The building surprises by its great exterior sobriety for a total length of 73 meters and only 9 meters wide. The adjoining convent is today an integral part of the Lorraine Museum. Built under René II of Lorraine after the battle of Nancy, it was consecrated in 1487. The chapel of the former convent of Cordeliers which contains the tombs of the Dukes of Lorraine is the subject of a classification as a historical monument by the list of 1840.
