THE FEUDAL CLOD
Curious feudal mound, also called motte castrale, which was originally used as a refuge for the inhabitants and the animals of the village
On this singular site, there is evidence of a human presence from the first century AD. The small town of Labry is distinguished by its curious feudal mound, also known as the "castrale" mound, dating from the 11th century with the 13th century Mahuet tower adjoining the site. Indeed, this impressive earth fortification originally served as a refuge for the inhabitants and animals of the village, a sort of defensive means in case of attack or invasion. Today covered with grass, the clod is the favourite playground for children. Young and old alike enjoy climbing it, so that they can climb up to get a better view of the village and its surroundings.
