HOLY CROSS CHURCH
Church-hall of Romano-Gothic style, with a central nave forming the choir, with remarkable furniture, statues
Local legend has it that the Church of the Holy Cross was built at the place where a pilgrim returning from Jerusalem with a fragment of the True Cross would have rested. This Romanesque-Gothic style hall church (built in the 13th century) has undergone some modifications over the course of time. The nave was enlarged in the 15th-16th centuries with the construction of three rib-vaulted bays, which were restored in 2002. Thethird span of the central nave forms the choir. The bell tower was rebuilt in the 17th century. Note the different design of its portals: if the north portal with five arches is typically Limousin and dates from the 13th century, the portal facing west is quite modern. You can come and admire the remarkable furniture of this church, consisting of two magnificent 13th century castles, in repoussé copper and champlevé enamel, the casket of Saint André-Hubert Fournet, priest of Poitou, and the casket of Saint Blaise, as well as the treasure and its 21 reliquaries, statuettes, crosses, ciboriums and in particular a reliquary arm of Saint Alpinien from 1862. You will also be able to see a Virgin of Mercy in stone.
