Follow the Maulde to this superb site. Protected for its scenic beauty since 1939, this 15-metre-high waterfall is a must-see! While its charm is obvious, its original history is also worth a visit. The waterfall became famous in 1889 thanks to a technical feat. Faced with insufficient flow from a local stream to light Bourganeuf (France's3rd-largest lighted town), engineer Marcel Deprez had a hydraulic power station installed there. For the first time in France, electricity could be transmitted over such a long distance.
