LA SOURCE DU CHER
A symbolic, bucolic place worth visiting, with a picnic table, two benches and a large map of the route
This is the birthplace of the Cher, at an altitude of 717 meters: 367 kilometers long, it flows through numerous villages, Montluçon, the western part of the Allier department, through a valley rich in remarkable flora and fauna, and finally joins the Loire. Here, the watercourse is no more than a timid gully at the bottom of a hollow lined with solid granite boulders, but it's a symbolic and bucolic place well worth discovering. The commune of Mérinchal has furnished the spot with a picnic table, two benches and a large map showing the course of the Cher.
