THE HERMITAGE OF SAINT-MARIEN

In the direction of the hamlet of Entraigues, you come to an area overlooking the confluence of the Tardes and the Cher, near the Rochebut dam. The solitude of these places had inspired Marien, a 4th century hermit who performed many miracles. Legend has it that when Marien died, Chambon and Evaux relied on God's judgment to know the place where he would rest. Two oxen, one from each town, were harnessed to a chariot to find out where to put the body. Finally, after some twists and turns, they stopped at the site of the present church. A pilgrimage is organized every year on October 10.
