THE CHURCH
Church of Romanesque origin located in Neuvic, benefiting from arches in crossing of ogives in the nave.
Of Romanesque origin, the church was partly destroyed in the Middle Ages during a fire. It was rebuilt several times and most of its transformations took place in the 14th century. Among the Gothic touches of its architecture are the cross-headed arches in the nave. The vaulted portal is Romanesque and its historiated capital tells the story of the stoning of Saint Stephen. The beautiful stained-glass windows let a plunging light into the apsidal choir. The nave is vast, with two apsidal chapels, including the southern one dedicated to Notre-Dame de Pennacors, which is highly venerated. Pennacors is a place of pilgrimage in the middle of the forest, a few kilometres from the town, near the ruins of the eponymous castle dating from the 12th century. In December, the Christmas market takes place at the foot of the church, delighting those curious about mulled wine, roasted carcasses and carriage rides.
