SAINT-PIERRE CHURCH
We go to St. Peter's Church to see the magnificent reissue between 1652 and 1704 by Pierre and Jean Duhamel, master sculptors. The various carved wooden panels which compose it show different episodes of the life of Saint Peter, father of the Catholic Church and patron of the church of Naves. On the prédelle, lower part of the altarpiece, you will discover among others Saint Peter walking on the waters, the healing of the paralytic, the miraculous fishing or the washing of the feet. The episodes continue, slightly above the altar. All these scenes are surplombées from four monumental statues representing, from left to right, Saint Jerome, the translator of the Bible, Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint John Baptiste, the herald of Christ's coming and nicknamed the Precursor. The highest stage is the Ascension of Christ. It is dominated by the dove that embodies the Holy Spirit. To admire this wonderful artwork, you can trigger a timer at the entrance of the choir to the left by rolling a coin inside. Take the time to listen and look at the sound and light offered.
