Emblematic of the region and nicknamed the "canary", this train has been criss-crossing the mountains of the Pyrénées-Orientales for over a century.
Emblem of the region, the yellow train, nicknamed the "canary" by the Catalans, has been crisscrossing the mountains of the Pyrenees-Orientales for more than a century now: 1,200 m of difference in altitude and 63 km of route, between Villefranche-de-Conflent and Latour-de-Carol, in the heart of an exceptional environment. Along the entire route, you will pass a good twenty stations (including Bolquère, the highest station in France, perched at an altitude of 1,593 m!) in a rugged and beautiful environment giving the sensation of crossing an adventure film set, skirting the rock faces, the train playing tightrope walker on the side of precipices. After skirting the void, you will enter the valleys of the Têt and Eyne, at the foot of the Canigou massif. In total, the yellow train rushes through nineteen tunnels and spans two renowned architectural structures: the Séjourné viaduct and the Gisclard suspension bridge, the last of its kind still in operation in France. If the train operates all year round, ensuring a daily round trip between the two termini of the line, during the summer season, the frequency of the trips rises to five per day, the train including in its convoy open cars allowing to take advantage of the landscape. The other advantage of the yellow train is that it is operated by the SNCF, which means that passengers do not have to spend money getting on and off at their leisure in the stations along the way. And there is no shortage of points of interest.
