Restaurant with terrace both cellar and wine bar in Tautavel offering dishes based on local and seasonal products.
El silex is not only a restaurant, it is also a wine cellar and bar (and a rock...). Thierry at the helm of this place of sharing and conviviality since 2010, comes from very far away... from Vingrau. This child of the country with Rabelaisian tendencies will really amaze you. "I grew up in the kitchen amid the smells between my mother and grandmother," he says. The tone is set! The menu is short, because of the local and seasonal produce, and often organic. In winter in the dining room or in summer on the large adjoining shaded terrace (arranged in a guinguette style with its summer cuisine), Thierry treats you to his fideua with Pals rice and lobster, his Freginat de Baixas with beef whiting or his bluefin tuna from the Mediterranean. "I only serve healthy products that respect animal life," he insists. As for wines, there are juices from here and elsewhere, small producers often, rare and very affordable pearls since the wines are at the estate price with a corkage fee of 6€. We told you a restaurant, a cellar and a wine bar, but also an atmosphere, a true spirit of generosity in the heart of a village that lives all year round.

Passing through Tauteval on our bicycles it was that time of day and decided to have lunch. This is an excellent small restaurant offering a simple menu of the day like most other establishments in small villages in France. We had 3 courses of delicious food with a bottle of local wine. There's no point in listing what we had as it changes daily. The food portions were perfect and served at a leisurely pace allowing us to saveur and digest before the next course. The service was very friendly and convivial. My French is reasonable and I can manage quite well except for the odd bit of Catalan. Yes this area has a rich Catalan heritage and the food, which was freshly prepared, reflects that so expect to see a bit of Catalan rather than French in the menus. Would definitely eat lunch here again. The fixed price menu/lunch is the best deal going anywhere in France. ????????❤️
