Fort built by Vauban to reinforce the borders with Spain at prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste

The fort was built by Vauban between 1677 and 1682 to reinforce the borders with Spain. There are 3 ways to get there: the classic path that climbs up the mountainside (15 min), the underground which has some 142 steps before reaching the ditch surrounding the building, in high season the shuttle bus. In the centre, a round tower, called the Guardia, gave its name to the monument. Around it are about forty rooms: armoury, chapel, kitchen with bread oven, powder magazine, and of course the lodgings of the hundred or so men posted here. To be discovered.
