LA FARGASSA
Vacation home in Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda enjoying a wild setting at the end of the world.
A little corner of paradise! A large, lovingly refurbished building overlooking the stream in a wild setting at the end of the world: the vacation home of your dreams if you're an eco-minded person. A Dutch family in the spirit of the film Captain Fantastic welcomes you to a gîte, a cabin in the woods or a campsite on their land. The table d'hôtes is vegetarian and made with produce from their own fields. A great place for children to frolic in the meadows or play in the stream. We love the natural, wild and humanist spirit that reigns here.

This place demonstrates interesting opportunism: they call themselves “Gite d’etape” for GR10 hikers and advertise along the route, but in fact hikers are only allowed to enter the property if paying for the night stay.
You are prohibited entry if you “only”
need to refill your water bottle (after 12 km uphill hike and before many more km without verified water source)
I suppose the owners need to decide if they are in or out the whole hikers thing, otherwise I don’t understand how this attitude gets along with the advertised “vegetarian and organic” mindset.
We chose to get water from the “non controlee” fountain at the church in Montalba and sleep in the woods.
P.S. water is not scarce at the spot - there is a pumping station an few meters away and a bunch of horses get their water filled continuously from a hose.

A fantastic relaxed place, welcoming to walkers and longer stays as long as you join in with the hippy veggie vibe. Delicious vegetarian shared meal, honesty fridge, river plunge pool and dortoir/camping spots on the GR11 and HRP. Full of lovely animals too!
