CATHERINE METAS
"It's what I do that teaches me what I'm looking for." This sentence by the painter Pierre Soulages rightly defines Catherine Métas' approach, guided more by gesture than imagination, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Aix-en-Provence, this experienced ceramist settled in the Cévennes National Park in the early 2000s. In her Florac studio, where music accompanies her creation at all times, this craftswoman works with porcelain, a material with infinite possibilities. These pieces, which oscillate between utilitarian and decorative, thus play the trompe-l'oeil, with changing aspects: skinned, textured, faceted or cracked. As for colours, Catherine Métas favours white in monochrome, to which she sometimes associates some enamelled shades. A member of the Ateliers d'art de France, she is co-author of a collective work, entitled L'Argile partagée.
