FROM PORT MARIANNE TO MAISON DE LA NATURE

Are you ready to discover the little Camargue, its fauna and its flora? Petit Futé suggests you a bike ride that is really easy – only flat way – that will lead you to the beautiful ponds and discover the birds of Camargue. To make this small excursion, it is preferable that it did not rained the previous day. The starting point is on the path along the river, at the Jacques-Coeur basin in the Port Marianne district. Go towards the south by following the river, until the end of the path. In front of you, there's the Marina Port Ariane and its colorful buildings. Take the road on the right, then the first left – a palm lined driveway. Cross the bridge over the canal, which connects the harbour and the leisure basin. Always continue straight between buildings, pass under a wide avenue – Avenue de l 'Europe – to arrive at the level of the Jacques-Aragon shopping center. From this place, go towards "Collège Georges-Brassens" from which the Maison de la Nature is signposted. In order to reach it, we cross a rural residential area and then walk along a canal. Once you arrive at the Maison de la Nature, take the small bridge – on foot or by bike – and follow the trail of about 7 kilometers between the ponds: It will bring you back to the same footbridge – authorized access from 9 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. You enter here a protected area, breeding site of many bird species. It then requires a big respect! If you still have time, the Maison de la Nature offers a permanent exhibition on the site, the watching of stork's nest filmed live and an observatory.
