THE GARDEN OF OULES
Visit to the Oules garden, awarded the 2014 Théâtres de verdure prize and the Jardin remarquable label in June 2015
The 2-hectare Jardin des Oules is located 5 km from Uzès. Formerly part of the château's park created at the end of the 19th century, it had been left to its own devices for over 50 years. It was taken over and restored by a family in love with the site in 2012, and opened to the public in July 2013, after extensive restoration and redevelopment work by landscape architect Emmanuel de Sauveboeuf. His talent and botanical knowledge enabled us to restore the original layout, which has been strengthened by the addition of several hundred new plantings of diverse and rare species. Frédéric Sichet, a specialist in green theaters, designed a 220-seat theater on the hillside, and Emmanuel de Sauveboeuf created a labyrinth planted with 1,200 pyramidal olive trees and 20 monumental sculptures, mainly in clay, by renowned artists. A water trail, with ponds and two grottoes, was restored with the help of the Fondation des Parcs et Jardins de France, as well as the French Héritage Société. The Jardin des Oules was awarded the 2014 Théâtres de verdure prize and the "Remarkable Garden" label in June 2015.
Concerts, conferences and theme days are held from time to time. A tea room is open on visiting days. Groups can ask for a guide to take them on a 90-minute tour of this wonderful garden. Partly adapted for people with reduced mobility, it is essential to make an appointment to collect the "golfette".
