Museum preserving a rich collection testifying to the life of Nîmes since the early Middle Ages, installed in the former episcopal palace.
Housed in the former episcopal palace, the Musée du Vieux Nîmes retraces local daily life from the High Middle Ages onwards, with nearly 30,000 exhibits. The thematic tour features decorative arts, typical Nîmes and Cévennes furniture, regional pottery and rich 18th-century textile collections. An entire room is dedicated to the famous toile de Nîmes, blue dyeing and the origins of denim. This sensitive, well-documented museum elegantly combines Nîmes' heritage, know-how and identity.
