PROTESTANT CEMETERY
This cemetery is a place of memory containing old graves, neoclassical vaults of the century, old cypress trees
Just as you visit Père-Lachaise in Paris, you must visit the Protestant cemetery of the Nîmes Reformed Church. Nîmes pastor Raoul Lhermet encourages you to pass through the large wall that surrounds the site, which has been listed as a Monument Historique since 2001: "This cemetery contains alleys of old trees surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, making it a place of peace and meditation par excellence, which discerning tourists even come to visit." The plot to the left of the central alley, known as the poor people's cemetery, is the oldest. The original layout of the bays, the ancient graves, the19th-century neoclassical vaults, the wrought-iron gates, the old cypress trees and the laurel-trees in this place of remembrance form a harmonious, romantic whole. Among the chapels and monuments, that of André Amenlier was sculpted by Pradier in 1847.
