Cultural rest area on the freeway with the remains of the columns of the ancient Roman theater of Nîmes, a must-see!
Enjoy a cultural break on the freeway! Here you'll find the columns of the ancient Roman theater of Nîmes, an impressive testimony to ancient architecture. Dating from the1st century B.C., they were part of a monumental theater used for performances. Rediscovered in the 19th century, these remains were incorporated into the former Nîmes theater, built by the architect Meunier in 1827, protected as a historic monument in 1949, then burnt down in 1952. After much controversy, the columns were moved to the heart of the garden.
