In the 8,000 hectares surrounding Aigues-Mortes, the salt flats offer a magical landscape where flamingos, herons and 200 species of birds share the limelight. A small train takes you through the salt tables to learn all about the secrets of salt crystallization, even offering a stop to climb to the top of a salt camelle. You may prefer to explore the salt pans by mountain bike, bicycle or on foot, on your own or with a guide. For a complete immersion experience, you can spend the night in one of the huts, farmhouses or houses.

Alors que je me suis approché d’une zone préservée sans aucune signalisation ni interdiction visible, j’ai été interpellé violemment, presque insulté, et menacé d’être expulsé par la sécurité … (Homme, chauve, la 60aine, conducteur d'une camionnette d'assainissement). Une réaction totalement disproportionnée et inacceptable à l’égard d’un visiteur respectueux. Je me suis excusée et indiqué qu'il n'y avait pas de panneau d'interdiction , contrairement à l'ensemble du site...
J’ai fait part de l’incident à la direction, espérant une réponse équitable. Malheureusement, leur réaction a été décevante : ils ont préféré soutenir leur employé sans prendre en compte l'expérience client.
