A museum showcasing educational tools used in local schools, located in the heart of the medieval city of Carcassonne.
The Musée de l'École is located in the former boys' school in the heart of the medieval town. In its five rooms, you can discover all the teaching aids used in local schools from 1880 to 1960. As soon as you enter, you can immerse yourself in the textbooks of yesteryear and, in the first room, read a reminder of Jules Ferry's laws, temporary exhibitions and a collection of school items from days gone by: wooden desks, a platform, a blackboard, chalk, ink, blotters, Sergeant-Major nibs, etc. The second room, known as "La Communale", houses a faithful reconstruction of a single classroom from the late 19th century (1882). In the third room, the "salle d'animation", you'll discover the evolution of the classroom, with its furnishings and violet ink writing utensils. You can try out the Gallic and Sergeant-Major nibs in this writing room, take a dictation from the annals of the "certif'", or do some arithmetic exercises, while you sit at one of the desks with your beautiful quill! Finally, the tour ends with a room dedicated to the "school battalions". An imposing library of period school books (5,000 titles) will perhaps help some of you get back up to speed. An authentic place to discover for a visit that will take you back in time in a fun and entertaining way, for the whole family!

Tout est d'époque, un vrai bon en arrière, on peut même s'essayer à l'écriture à la plume. Mes petits enfants étaient ravis et nous aussi. A souligner l'accueil exceptionnel du personnel du musée. A faire absolument.
