State forest to admire several vestiges such as the castle of Val, the House of Education of the Legion of Honor

This 3,533-hectare state-owned forest occupies the loop of the Seine between the towns of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Poissy. Its surface area makes it the second largest forest in Yvelines. As you stroll through the forest, you'll discover many species of trees, including oak, beech, pine, maple and chestnut, as well as a wealth of wildlife. You'll also be able to admire several relics: the Château du Val, the Maison d'Education de la Légion d'Honneur, the Pavillon de chasse de la Muette, the Chinese Wall, the Croix de Noailles, the Etoile de Palis-Ferrand, a former animal reserve, the Faisanderie and the former hamlet of Vignole, where pheasants were bred for the royal hunts... To make the forest more comfortable for hikers and riders, a number of improvements have been made: there are 54 km of signposted footpaths, 3 cycle paths and 70 km of bridle paths, where you may come across the Republican horse guards who patrol the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. There are also a number of themed trails, and some particularly popular places to relax: on the banks of the Mare aux Canes or the Etang du Corra, or in the Parc forestier de la Charmeraie with its children's playground. Many Parisians come here at weekends - some even cycle here! -to spend a few hours in this enchanting, timeless setting.
