SAINT SAVIOR PRIORY
Priory built in the 11th century and featuring an cross-vaulted crypt in Melun.
Built in the 11th century by Robert II the Pious, as the statue of him with the monks suggests, the Saint-Sauveur priory was subsequently ravaged before being rebuilt in the 15th century, then transformed during the Renaissance. Abandoned in the 17th century, it was used as a salt granary before being sold as national property during the Revolution. The oldest part, the cross-vaulted crypt, dates from the 11th century, as does the nave with its ribbed vaults resting on 13th-century capitals. Although closed to the public, it is visible from the outside.
