The estate is the largest private property in France to be classified as a Historic Monument
The Vaux-le-Vicomte estate was created over a period of twenty years, between 1641 and 1661, by three men working under the aegis of Nicolas Fouquet: gardener Le Nôtre, architect Le Vau and painter-decorator Le Brun. The trio's work was so remarkable that it dazzled the Sun King himself, to the point that he later entrusted them with his Versailles chateau project... You'll discover a perfect harmony between architecture and landscape.

Note, in the basement of the castle, a reconstruction vibrant and in relief from the gardens which explains very well construction and perspective designed by Le Nôtre.
I appreciated the visit of the estate to the candle which offers another vision of the very unusual site (only some evenings weekend on fine days).
