A small museum opposite La Cigale, featuring a remarkable phonograph, horn gramophones, electrophones and more.

A small museum located opposite La Cigale that's well worth a visit! It's the brainchild of collector Jalal, who takes us through the truly fascinating history of sound. We go back to Edison's first cylinder phonograph in 1877. We then move on to beautiful horn gramophones, electrophones and the compact disc, all surrounded by equally beautiful vintage advertising posters, vinyl sleeves, photos and more. We listen religiously to the sounds of the past and the anecdotes of the owner.

My husband and I visited the lovely Phono Museum this past Friday, and are so happy that we stopped in! We ran into the museum while walking through the neighborhood earlier in the week, and were so intrigued that we knew we had to stop in when it was open. We were treated to a wonderful tour of all the history the museum has to offer -- including all of the working models that the museum has collected over the years. We were standing in Paris listening to music that had been recorded over a hundred years ago on wax cylinders -- we were quite literally surrounded by historical sounds and music while standing in the middle of historic Paris itself. One of the owners of the museum provided our tour herself, and she was so knowledgeable about all of the items and what they represented in the history of recorded sound. This was truly one of the highlights of our visit to Paris, and we highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
