The FAVEC was born in 1949 by the will of a group of women decided to obtain rights for widows who were not widows of war. The Federation comprises 92 associations throughout France and has more than 27 000 members. It has a public information role to encourage couples to take action in anticipation of a prospective widowhood. Listening, informing, welcoming and defending the rights of surviving spouses are its main tasks.
