Museum housing a rich collection of Chinese and Japanese art dating mainly from Antiquity to the century

Opened in 1898, the Musée Cernuschi is housed in a private mansion on the edge of the Parc Monceau. It houses a collection of Chinese and Japanese art dating mainly from Antiquity to the 14th century: bronzes, funerary statuettes, ceramics... It is named after Henri Cernuschi, an Italian Republican who bequeathed the collections he brought back from his travels to the City of Paris, as well as his home. While access to the permanent collections is free, temporary exhibitions (on modern Vietnamese art on our last visit) are not.

This museum is not big, but if you like asian art, you must visit it. It is a small piece of gem in Paris. And it is partly for free, if you do not visit exchibition. We visited the free part and it was more than enough. Must have to visit, if you like small museums and are interested in Asian culture????????

Really enjoyed it here! Happened upon it by accident. A smaller but very beautiful museum with a variety of objects well explained and laid out. The central room was very impressive, but my favourite pieces were the ornate incense containers shaped like animals.
