A remarkable obelisk donated by Mohammed Ali, Viceroy of Egypt, erected on the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
The obelisk donated by Mohammed Ali, Viceroy of Egypt, was erected on Place de la Concorde on October 25, 1836, in the presence of Louis-Philippe. It had left Luxor in 1830. In 1998, to celebrate two centuries of close friendship between the two countries, a bronze and gold pyramidion was placed here. Made of pink granite, the obelisk stands 33 metres high and weighs 222 tonnes. It will be even more famous during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, when the Place de la Concorde will host sporting events.

Magnifique obélisque. Les hiéroglyphes qui décorent ses différentes faces sont bien conservés.

the obelisk of the Egyptian temple of Louxor was erected on the Concorde Square in October 1836, 23 meters tall, 230 tons. A formidable technical challenge and an extraordinary human adventure. The obelisk was classified as a historic monument in 1936. The night decor is always more pleasant.
