The National Institution of the Invalides (INI) is under the supervision of the Department of Defence and Veterans Affairs. It is headed by a general practitioner of the health service of the armed forces. Historically, the role of INI was to welcome wounded war and veterans, and it was specialized in care related to heavy disabilities. The majority of patients were beneficiaries of the provisions of the Code of Invalidity Military Pensions and War Victims. Today, INI welcomes both soldiers and civilians, both men and women. A total of 91 individual rooms are designed for patients.
