The Tour de France Automobile created in 1899 is the ancestor of the current Tour Auto. The modern version, organized by Peter Auto, is called Tour Auto Optic 2000. The 250 to 300 vehicles leave from Paris (Grand Palais) each year, in the Competition or Regularity category, with also races on circuits and stage cities where the spectators can admire the mythical vehicles. The route changes every year. It is the oldest competition event still being held. Vehicles that participated between 1951 and 1973 can take the start.
