A museum dedicated to the history and artistic career of Eugène Delacroix, housed in the apartment where the artist lived out his life

Renovated and completed in March 2024, the museum is housed in the apartment where Eugène Delacroix ended his life. This major artist, torchbearer of revolutionary Romanticism and author of La Liberté guidant le peuple (in the Louvre), chose this district of the 6th arrondissement to paint his last works. Once past the porch of the rue Furstenberg building, you'll discover a charming ensemble - the apartment, with the painter's personal objects, his studio and a garden.

A big disappointment. A multitude of copied paintings by a youthful Delecroix and many others. A small handful of poor quality paintings. The museum does no service to the paintings or reputation of this great artist. Not worth the entry fee, nor the time spent.

Perfectly compact exhibit in his studio no less. Worth the detour!
