FONTAINE SAINT-MICHEL
Fountain built in 1860, occupying the entire facade of a building in Paris
Inaugurated in 1860 when Baron Haussmann was transforming Paris, the Saint-Michel fountain (26 m high, 15 m wide) is the work of Gabriel Davioud. It was built to conceal the gable wall at the corner of boulevard Saint-Michel, place Saint-André-des-Arts and rue Danton. At its center, a statue by Francisque Duret depicts Saint Michel slaying the dragon, or the struggle of good against evil; above him, four bronzes (Force, Temperance, Justice and Prudence) and at his feet, two dragons from which jets of water gush forth.
