This Gallo-Roman amphitheater was built in the century and rediscovered in 1869 during the construction of the rue Monge
The city of Paris was built on the ruins of Lutetia, a commercial city of the Roman Empire. This rare Gallo-Roman amphitheater was built in the 1st century and rediscovered in 1869 during the construction of the rue Monge. At the time, the idea of its destruction was put forward but many personalities of the time, including Victor Hugo, fought for the monument to be saved and restored. It was done in 1910. Sitting on the bleachers, you can almost hear the sound of the gladiators' weapons clashing and the fervor of the crowd.
