Majestic palace, owned by the Guise family in the century, home to the National Archives and the Hôtel de Rohan.

The Hôtel de Soubise is a majestic 18th century palace which today houses the National Archives, as does the Hôtel de Rohan. Property of the de Guise family in the 16th century, it later became the headquarters of the Holy League, spearhead of the Catholics against the Protestants during the Wars of Religion. But it owes its present appearance to the royal architect Germain Boffrand (18th century) and it was in 1808 that it was assigned to the conservation of the National Archives.

We visited here thinking it was a green space as shown on Google maps.

But the gardens that were there were closed for works.

We didn't go inside.

Ai visité les lieux avec un guide m'a permis de découvrir beaucoup d'aspects historiques des lieux . Fait marquant : une copie de l'édit de Nantes et bien d'autres manuscrits tout aussi intéressants. Et j'ai été étonnée aussi par l'épaisseur des poussières à certains endroits. C'est plutôt surprenant pour cet endroit.

Free palace, museum and gardens. A must-see in the « Marais » neighborhood. The permanent and temporary exhibits (free) show exceptional authentic documents from the early Middle Ages to modern times. For instance the last letter of Marie Antoinette, the trial of Joan of Arc, etc.
