The Passage du Caire, one of Paris's passages divided into three galleries, now devoted to the wholesale textile trade.
The Passage du Caire is one of the best-preserved covered passages in Paris. Opened in late 1798, it owes its name to Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt that same year. The passageway is divided into three galleries, today devoted to the wholesale textile trade typical of the Sentier district. Nevertheless, it's well worth the detour, especially its façade. Placed at the entrance on Place du Caire, it is adorned with three effigies of Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love, joy, music and dance: quite a program!
