PISCINE DES AMIRAUX
Read moreThis is one of the architectural jewels of the capital, having experienced in recent years major restoration work to restore its splendour. With a pool of impressive dimensions - 33 m x 10 m - the pool of Amiraux is distinguished by its history. The building, designed by Henri Sauvage in 1922, was intended to house the working families in a collective way. The government's desire at the time to give everyone access to leisure led to the inauguration of the swimming pool in 1930. Two floors of passageways lead to individual cabins. The tiles of the beaches and the exterior façade are identical to that of the Paris metro: swim in a jewel of Art Nouveau architecture which is classified as a Historical Monument! The complex has recently been upgraded, including a modernization of access to showers for people in wheelchairs. The atmosphere is very friendly, many regulars meet there, and moviegoers as it is in this pool that was shot a scene from the film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. You can learn to swim or improve and enjoy aqua-gym courses. Beware, however, this "historic" swimming pool attracts curious people and is therefore often very busy.
STADE POISSONNIERS
Read moreThe Poissonniers sports center is equipped with a stadium and a 400-meter athletic track. Inside, there are two gymnasiums with tracks (volleyball, handball, basketball, badminton), three tennis courts and a climbing wall. The buildings are a bit dilapidated, the place is sometimes difficult to find, as it is wedged between a former military building and the ring road, but the sports facilities themselves are acceptable. Some people say that the whole place should soon benefit from a deep renovation. The place is accessible with the tramway.
ADIDAS ARENA
Read moreBuilt for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and inaugurated on 11th February of that year, the Adidas Arena (from its original name "La Chapelle Arena", named after the neighbourhood where it's located) will host several events during the fortnight. Above all, it is a new venue for Parisians: with over 10,000 seats, it will host sporting competitions and concerts, becoming the equivalent of a Zenith, where a dismal multi-storey parking lot had previously stood, with little recommended use, thus contributing to the renewal of the district.
VERTICAL ART PIGALLE
Read moreOne would not expect to find a climbing gym in the heart of Pigalle, and yet it is here that Vertical Art decided to open its latest variation. A la carte or according to courses, the place offers a bouldering room that is really well thought out, and the climbing routes are renewed every month, which is a change from the usual places that offer you the same routes for years. The youngest are welcome and will of course be taken care of. Finally, note that the place has a sauna, a bar and a restaurant
