For more than 20 years, this small, friendly neighbourhood bookshop, nestled in the heights of Montmartre, has been welcoming beautiful souls and offering beautiful literature. The Librairie des Abbesses deserves its location on the Butte Montmartre. Where many artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh and Satie have pushed back the boundaries of convention, this establishment supports independent authors and keeps away from the star authors who are victims of fashion. The bookshop also awards a writing grant through the Wepler Fondation La Poste Prize, which has been recognising the talent of unclassifiable authors since 1998. Proud to be an independent bookshop, the establishment is a must for readers in the neighbourhood.

Julia and Alice, at the helm of La Régulière, brilliantly run a well-known store in the neighbourhood. Located right in the middle of the Goutte d'Or, La Régulière's credo is to provide access to books and promote independent publishing. Here, you can learn and discover little nuggets that you wouldn't see anywhere else. In addition to a fine selection of children's books, graphic arts and comics, the bookshop hosts numerous events. Special mention should be made of the arts and crafts workshops, which children love.

This is what we call a neighborhood bookstore, a real one. The two young women who hold it are anxious to catch the greatest number of books and read them and then advise them to their clients. They all choose one by one and stroke the rays only if they have an interest in the book. They can fall into the commercial - but good - than in the more focused novel. They do not impose anything but they know the book and their recommendations are often very fair. Then free for everyone to follow according to their desires of the moment.
