This gigantic work, sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, is one of the most famous symbols of New York and the United States.
French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi is responsible for the Statue of Liberty, one of New York City's best-known symbols. Preparations for this gigantic work included the creation of a plaster model. The replica at the end of Swan Island downstream, dating from 1889, is a bronze cast of this model. At 11.50 metres high, it's larger than life!
