An rococo facade with garlands and grimacing masks: no doubt, when you enter here, we're sure there's going to be a show! This is what the clients of this address, who are a century and a half, have already said. From materials recovered on the demolition site of the 1867 exhibition, the limonadier François Jamin makes a café-concert in rue de la Gaîté. The Concert de la Gaîté-Montparnasse opens in 1868. Georges Dorfeuil Jr. took things into hands in the early th century and recruited young artists like Maurice Chevalier and Georgius. During the Crazy years, the room offers singing towers, the nude, tragedies, all without apparent logic. La Gaîté then becomes a music hall room where the singers and cabaret artists take place: Roger Nicolas, Fred Adisson, Gina Manès… In 1945, the actress Agnès Capri, who played at Jouvet and Pitoëff, set up an avant-garde theatre where a young lady named Marie-Juliette Greco. After a close in the early 1950 s, the adventure began in 1958 with Michel Fagadau. Until 1978, he leads the room and shows many shows. Then, music hall and theatre share the poster: Do and Val, Jean-Roger Caussimon, Luis Rego, Santa Claus is a trash, by the Splendid… The great actors have all passed through the Gaîté since: Catherine Rich, Pierre Arditi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Fanny Ardant, Niels Arestrup…
