If the walk has always existed, it is not the same for hiking. This term began with the creation of a large national network of marked trails from 1946. It was around 1880, during an evening drunk among British notables, that table tennis was born with a champagne cap as ball and cigar boxes as snowshoes. This sport took a more official turn with 1885-year-old equipment and was patented by James Devonshire. Since 1927, FFTT has established its practice by grouping sports associations. She also organizes national competitions and represents French table tennis abroad. The federation registers more than 190 000 licensees and relies on a network of 27 regional leagues and 96 departmental committees comprising 3 580 clubs.

The French Athletics Federation (FFA) has more than 250 000 licensees and 2 200 clubs across the region. Its mission is to promote and develop the practice of athletics in all its forms: in stage (races, jumps, casts, combined events and athletic walk) or off-stage (cross-country, race and athletic walk, Nordic walking, walking in kind, including trails and mountain racing). In addition, the FFA forms federal leaders, animators, trainers and coaches and issues federal titles.
