An impressive stone block vat to discover in Haegen.
The stone vat is a huge block of cut sandstone, 4.5 metres in diameter and 2.10 metres high. At its center is a circular basin accessible via small steps. Legend has it that it was commissioned by the Abbey of Marmoutier, but the workmen were unable to move it once completed. Another explanation is that it was used as a water reservoir for the Celtic oppidum, but archaeologists don't all agree and some think it was carved in the Middle Ages.
