Founded in 1190, this masterpiece of 13th-century Anglo-Norman Gothic style, in all its Cistercian purity, offers visitors a troglodytic cellar, the ruins of the abbey church, a three-aisled chapter house, a workroom, the nuns’ dormitory and monastic gardens dotted with sculptures evoking the women who lived there.
