SALIERES MUSEUM
An atypical museum presenting an incredible source of inspiration, with azure coats of arms and silver salt shakers.
Small in size (5 meters by 5 meters) but big in numbers... Since 2018, 3,200 salt shakers have been on display at this highly unusual museum. So atypical that it even ranks 11th in the top 20 unusual museums in the world. It's also one of the smallest in France! Why find such a site here? Because salt undeniably has a long-standing relationship with the town of Sellières, which is said to have been called Salières in the 15th century. Indeed, it borders the salt vein between Lons-le-Saunier and Salins. Its coat of arms features three silver salt shakers. In short, in this small museum, you'll discover salt shakers of all shapes, sizes and colors, all classified by theme (country, region, animal, fruit, etc.). An escape game is also available outside, in the streets of the village: "La Belle introuvable" will amuse you and help you discover all the historical treasures of the site over a two-hour itinerary (freely inspired). The booklet is available from the museum, the JurAbsolu Tourist Office and France Service Sellières. Last but not least, the salt shakers are no longer only on display at the museum. They're also on display in the heart of the village, in the windows of former shops that are now closed. A must-see when you visit the region.
