The great site of the Madeleine knows a human persistence notes, its history is presented to you by a dynamic team.

This prehistoric site, which gave its name to the Magdalenian era (between about 17,000 and 10,000 years B.C.), consists of rock shelters dug into a cliff. The whole site forms a magnificent site overhanging the Vézère river : the visit circuit is marked out, but one can opt for a guided tour. The site of the Madeleine is divided into 3 parts which correspond to 3 historical layers. The primitive deposit, discovered in 1863, cannot be visited. It is located below on the banks of the Vézère. At the intermediate level, the troglodytic village, built directly on the limestone rock, was inhabited by rural people from the 9th to the 19th century. On the upper level, you go around the castle of Petit Marzac to reach a viewpoint on the Vézère. A picnic area allows you to enjoy this magical place for a longer time. Workshops are organized in July and August. For a few years now, during the summer season, each day of the week a craft that could have been practiced in the village is highlighted. The blacksmith, the baker in connection with the restoration of the 12th century banal oven, the leaf maker, the basket maker....

Last arrival on the big site: the farm. On the adjoining agricultural property, you will be able to discover the interweaving of rural life in the life of the village which was maximum until the end of the occupation of the troglodyte city. The various observation posts allow to better understand the human organization of this place.

VISITE TRES INTERESSANTE
