LE CASTELLU D'ARAGGIO
One of six castelli in southeastern Corsica, located in Porto-Vecchio, with a fortified enclosure and main gate.
One of six castelli in south-east Corsica. It is a major architectural landmark left by the Torrean civilization, warriors who settled in Corsica between 6,000 and 1,600 B.C. The construction was a colossal undertaking, given the size of the stone blocks and the monumental entrance. The layout of the dwelling was particularly elaborate, and the fortified enclosure with its main gateway can still be seen today, as well as a parapet walk and numerous rooms cut into the thickness of the walls.
