THE CALANQUES OF PIANA
A fantastic mineral landscape, as if carved out of the mass of surrealistically cut red granite rocks.
Between Porto and Cargèse, the D 81 crosses the calanques of Piana - calanche di Piana in Corsican. Listed as a World Heritage site, they reveal geological formations of phantasmagorical shapes and colors. Divided between the communes of Ota and Piana, this small mountain range, the result of ancient local volcanic activity, is classified on 730 hectares as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF). The rock formations are an unmistakable feature of this remarkable landscape, creating surprising shapes along the way: a heart, a bishop, a fortified castle or a couple in love. Be aware, however, that the site is very popular with tourists, and the road is very busy in summer. Caution is therefore advised at the wheel. Parking is difficult, but there are several footpaths that cross the site. From Cargèse, for example, it's possible to overlook the D81 on foot by taking the mule track that starts from the municipal stadium, where there's a large parking lot. A swim at the Arone beach or at the Ficaghjola marina, an old fishing port, is very welcome! You can also take a boat trip to the Calanques de Piana. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful marine excursions in Corsica. Seeing the red of the rock plunging into the turquoise blue of the water, sailing under a rocky porch and admiring the natural sculptures from the sea is a unique experience!

Il peut être découvert par la mer, à pied ou plus communément par la route qui longe la cote. J'adore parcourir ce site à pied à partir du sentier des muletiers ou aussi des sentiers en bord de mer.
