THE PENITENCIAL
A place where we try to identify the cellars, powder magazines and walls that housed the convicts piled up during the Second Empire.
From Ajaccio, heading for Propriano, take the small road that climbs through the large eucalyptus forest towards the village of Coti-Chiavari. In these strange remains, you can see the cellars, powder magazines and walls that housed the convicts of the Second Empire. It's an ideal spot for walks, picnics or mountain bike outings. Above the penitentiary, a picturesque walk begins at the dam. The penitentiary building is now private and not open to visitors, but it's a very pretty place.
