Two facing churches built in the century in Cargèse, one with a fine painting.
Two buildings built opposite each other in the 19th century. The neoclassical St. Mary's Church boasts impressive trompe-l'oeil decoration. The Byzantine-rite Church of St. Spiridion is decorated with icons, including one of St. John the Baptist, created by a monk from Mount Athos and carried in procession for Easter. The icons date back to the first settlers, who took them with them into exile. TheEpitaphios is a fine 13th-century painting on wood, sometimes carried in procession.
