Library with a majestic 30-metre-long heritage room in Ajaccio
Ajaccio's municipal library was opened in the north wing of the Palais Fesch. It was originally intended as a gallery for large paintings. The majestic heritage room is 30 meters long, 9 meters wide and 10 meters high. Sixteen windows open onto the gallery. Its walnut furnishings (shelving and an 18-meter-long table) were designed by architect Cazeneuve. It houses 40,000 books!

If ever you wanted a living definition of a library, this is it. The works held here date back to the 1500’s. Stunning architecture. Easily missed as the entrance hides the beautiful interior very well, Ajaccio’s best kept secret?
